Progress and the evolution of ideas

How do we experience life?

We experience life in four dimensions. The first dimension can be represented by a single point. We often think of a starting point, the origin of an idea, a journey, or a cosmos, perhaps. With two dimensions, we can establish a direction, from A to B, for example, and we can define shapes. With three dimensions, we can create fully developed forms within a space. We design, architect and build within our environment. The fourth dimension is time, where matter and space converge with the moments of our individual experiences and with the physical world of cause and effect. We can only experience time in one direction, as we observe time as it passes from future to present to past. That is, we experience reality as a succession of moments as we move from the past through the present into the future.

The creative process in four dimensions

One: Idea

Two: Direction and Shape

Three: Structure

Four: Reality

Life is made of basic elements which, when combined, are a complex, mysterious, beautiful reality. Exploring the world, we encounter triads that define this life.

Time. Space. Matter.

Past. Present. Future.

Width. Height. Depth.

Proton. Neutron. Electron.

The number three appears to be a recurring pattern in the physical world.

Progress refers to the changes that we observe in our experience of the physical world. This is where we try to make sense of life, exploring what has been, what is and what could be, learning and finding wisdom as we discover our own agency to affect change in the world.

Three: progress and the evolution of ideas.
